Town of Algoma, Wisconsin

Waste Collection

Today is Wednesday, March 10, 2010

Please be sure to have your trash and recycling out for pickup by 6:00 AM on Mondays.  The routes have changed and some of you went from being picked up later in the day to being picked up the first thing in the morning.  Therefore, make sure you have your carts out by 6:00 AM or you will be missed.  Thank you.

Changes in Trash/Recycling Pickup

The Toter Carts Are Here!

The Toter carts have arrived.  They were delivered to your home the week of December 7th.  If you haven’t received yourcarts, please contact the Town Hall Office at 235-3789.

Beginning December 14th, trash day for the entire town is on  Mondays.  We no longer have a Wednesday pickup.   The first day to use the carts is Monday, December 14th.  This day is also a recycling day for the north side of Omro Road north to the lake.  If you reside in this location, you are the circles on the 2010 recycling calendar.

December 21st will be the first recycling day for those who live on the south side of Omro Road south to the town line.  You are the squares on the 2010 recycling calendar.  This is also a trash day for the entire town.

December 28th is a trash day for the entire town and a recycling day for those who reside on the north side of Omro Road north to the lake.  We then follow the 2010 recycling calendar located on page 4 of this newsletter.

A few reminders:

· Looking to throw away your old garbage cans? Veolia will take it as long as the can is clearly labeled “Please take” or something to that effect.

· Two carts are needed per household

      - 1 blue cart for recycling

      - 1 tan cart for trash

· Veolia will only pick up what is inside the cart.  Any items set to the side of the cart will not be picked up.

· Veolia will not pick up any large items, they must be taken to the county landfill by the owner.

· Recyclables are to be put into the blue recycling cart loosely, no more blue bags.

· Garbage bags can still be used for garbage.

· Plastic grocery bags should not be placed with recyclables.  Many stores have containers where these plastic bags can be taken to or they can be put in the trash.

· Paper grocery bags should go in with the recyclables.  Great to put shredded paper in.

If you are not satisfied with your choice in cart sizes, there will be a 90 day trade-in period.  This trade-in period will begin January 15th and will end April 15th, 2010.  This program will allow you to bring in your clean cart and trade it in for a different size as long as that size is available.  The cost difference will be either refunded to or paid by the resident depending on the trade-in value.  For example, if you trade-in a 45 gallon cart for a 65 gallon cart, the difference in price is $1.00.  You would be responsible for the dollar.  Once again the cost of the carts is as follows:

96 Gallon—$45.00

65 Gallon—$38.00

45 Gallon—$37.00

We will not allow cart trade-in on Election Days; February 16th and April 6th.

Again, feel free to contact the Town Hall Office with any questions you may have at 235-3789
