Note: Permits are required to be obtained prior to the work being
started. Failure to obtain permits will result in the doubling of permit fees,
and possibly the issuance of a citation.

Sanitary Permit
Issued by Algoma Sanitary District (If property is
in sanitary district) or Winnebago County Zoning Department (if property is not
in sanitary district).
A sanitary permit is required prior to any work being done on a sewer
lateral. This includes the original installation of a lateral, and any time a
sewer lateral is disconnected. If a sanitary permit is needed it is required to
be issued prior to the issuance of any other permits.
Building Permit
Issued by Town of Algoma Building Inspection Department
A building permit is required for the construction of any structure, fence,
sign, or anytime more than $500.00 in work is going to be done to an existing
building, or any work that will affect the type of occupancy, area of structure,
structural strength, natural light requirements, or exits from a building. If a
sanitary permit is required, it needs to be obtained prior to this permit being
issued.
Electrical Permit
Issued by Town of Algoma Building Inspection Department.
An electrical permit is required for doing any electrical work. The only
exception is for the replacement of existing fixtures with the same type of
fixture.
Plumbing Permit
Issued by Town of Algoma Building Inspection Department.
If a sanitary permit is required it must be obtained prior to the issuance of
this permit. A plumbing permit is required any time work is done to the plumbing
system. This includes the water distribution, and drain & vent pipes. The only
exception is for the replacement of plumbing fixtures that does not involve the
relocation of water, drain or vent pipes. Note that replacing a water heater
does require a permit to be taken out.
Heating Ventilation and Air
Conditioning (HVAC) Permit
Issued by Town of Algoma Building Inspection Department.
A HVAC permit is required prior to installation of, additions, or alterations
being done to, HVAC systems and there components. This includes replacing
furnace, boiler, air conditioning equipment.
Winnebago County Zoning Permit
Issued by Winnebago County Zoning Department.
A zoning permit is required prior to constructing, reconstructing, enlarging,
extending, converting, or moving a structure. This includes accessory buildings,
decks, pools, fences, and signs. Interior alterations do not require a zoning
permit, unless it will affect the area of the structure. You need to make
application for a zoning permit at Winnebago County Zoning Department
Demolition Permit
Issued by Town of Algoma Building Inspection Department.
A demolition permit is required prior to demolishing any structure.
Occupancy Permit
Issued by Town of Algoma Building Inspection Department .
An occupancy permit is required prior too moving into or living in any
structure. Failure to obtain an occupancy permit before using a building will
result in the issuance of a citation. This permit is issued after a final
inspection has been completed and no health or safety violations are found.
Moving Permit
Issued by Town of Algoma Building Inspection Department
A moving permit is required prior to moving any building within, into or
through the town.
Culvert Permit
Issued by Town of Algoma Building Inspection Department.
A culvert is required prior to creating a driveway or extending, or
relocating an existing culvert. The county will set the culvert at the proper
elevation and location in the drainage ditch. The required size of the culvert
will be determined by the building inspector. The owner is responsible for
supplying the culvert and endwalls. This permit is required in order to ensure
that water flow in the ditches is not disrupted by improperly installed
culverts.
